Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a well-known attraction in Sri Lanka and may be of interest to some travellers. However, Elephant Travels encourages guests to think carefully about animal welfare and to choose wildlife experiences responsibly. The company does not promote elephant-back riding or activities that may cause harm or unnecessary stress to animals.
Because of the Elephant Travels name, some travellers assume the company promotes elephant activities such as elephant riding. This is not the case. The name reflects admiration for Sri Lanka’s wildlife and natural heritage — it does not mean support for elephant riding or harmful animal entertainment. We encourage respectful wildlife experiences that prioritise animal welfare, responsible observation, and ethical travel choices.
